The colour changing version of the popular Philips Hue GU10 LED is physically deeper than a traditional GU10 LED. With a depth of 70mm compared to the normal height of around 54mm for a 50W halogen or a perfect fit GU10 LED. Details about the dimensions can be found here on the Philips Hue website.
This poses a problem as it won’t fit inside most GU10 downlights, it’s physically too deep. It will fit inside most non-fire rated downlights as they don’t have any restrictions at the back. Here are some great quality die-cast, non-fire rated downlights by Ansell Lighting. If you need a fire rating you could add an additional fire hood. This is how fire rated downlight installations had to be done in the ‘old days’ before fully fire rated downlights even existed.
Aurora Lighting used to have a great range of deeper can fire rated downlights known as the DLM range but they discontinued them due to lack of demand.
Currently available and suitable for housing the Philips Hue is the Integral EvoFire. The non-insulation coverable version has no back and no height restrictions. It’s a fully fired rated and IP65 rated downlight. Its only available in a fixed position, not adjustable.
